Benue Govt. Pledges Support For CEFTER.
Benue State Government has assured the Centre for Food Technology and Research, CEFTER , Benue State University, of her support to ensure agricultural value chain and food sufficiency for the state.
Governor Samuel Ortom gave the assurance today when he paid a familiarisation visit to the headquarters of the centre located in New GRA, Makurdi.
Governor Ortom lauded the centre for the practical trainings it has been given to students since inception to process agricultural produce into finish products, saying post harvest loses have been reduced in the state.
While thanking the World Bank for the grants it has given CEFTER to put up the centre with well equipped laboratories, Governor directed that a five hundred KVA transformer be provided to the centre and water connected to it from water board.
The Governor charged the management of Benue State University to work hard to ensure that the center attracts more grants from the World Bank to enhance it’s sustainability as well as establish centres in other areas.
The Vice Chancellor of BSU, Professor Msugh Kembe highlighted the achievements of the centre which include among others establishment of a factory which produces yoghurt, cassava biscuit and high quality table water.
Professor Kembe however said the centre was grappling with some challenges, adding that it needs a water reservoir, an electricity transformer and furnishing of two laboratories and solicited the assistance of the Government.
Earlier, the Centre Leader of CEFTER, Dr. Barnabas Ikyo who through a power point presentation acquainted the Governor of the journey of the centre from the beginning to this point attributed the success story to the Government.#
