Police SCIID cells not good for animals— Minna Base Publisher.

A Minna base newspaper publisher Yahaya Mohammed Usman has requested Judges and Magistrates in the country to visit detention facilities of men of the state criminal investigation and intelligence Department SCIID to see the inhumane treatment that suspects are being subjected to.
He explained that the detention facility of the SCIID can best be described horrible and traumatic that is not even inhabitable for animals.
Yahaya Mohammed Usman who was testifying before the commission of Inquiry on police brutality and violation of human rights set up as a result of harrasment of men of the Special Anti Robery squad SARS in Minna said he was delivered in a two feet cell of the men of the SCIID of the Niger state police command for two days on the order of the Chief of staff to Governor of Niger state, Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe kagara.
According to the publisher,he was arrested by the operatives the state criminal investigation and intelligence Department SCIID on the order of the Chief of staff to be Governor while he was going on his way to Abuja for a business trip.
He described that upon the receipt of the SCID Abdullahi Ya’u Tahir he turned back to respond to the phone call”while at the office of Head of the SCIID he was told that he was a security threat to the state for being in possession of some classified documents of the state government.
He narrated that at that point he told the Justice Ishaku Usman led commission of Inquiry that he was told to write a statement and he would not write any statement until his lawyer was around before he will write a statement.
He said he wrote his statement in the presence of his lawyer where he stated that in the statement that he was only doing his job as a journalist “and I can not be a security threat to my own state”.
He said when he came back to the SCIID office as instructed only for him to be detained in two feet cell along with hardened kidnappers and hardened criminals in the midst of CORVID-19 .
He said”my experience in the cell was hurrible, the trauma passed through in the SCIID cell” the cell could best be described as traumatic, the cell is without and a pit toilet right inside the cell with over 30 other hardened criminals in decking cell without light , sardine is more preferable than the manner in which were he was kept in the SCIID cell, saying I don’t wish even my energy to pass the experience I passed through in that facility.
When asked what he needed from the commission by his lawyer Barrister Tanko Beji, the publisher told the commission to recommend in their report for the need judge’s and Magistrates to take a visit to inspect detention facilities of the SCIID to see how people were kept in dehumanized state.
He then told the panel that he should be paid fifty million two hundred thousand naira (#50,200,000,00) for the expenses he inquired while in detention.
