Unpaid Retirement Benefits; NSHA summons DG.Pension board, others.

Niger State House of Assembly has ordered the Director General of Pensions Board , the Executive Chairman Niger State Universal Basic Education Board and Commissioner for Local Government and chieftaincy affairs as well as Commissioner of finance to appear before the appropriate joint committees of the House.
The invitation of the four government officials before the joint committees is to explain why civil servants who have retired between 8 to 10 years could not access their retirement benefits.
This was brought under matter of urgent public importance by Suleiman Gambo Rabiu member representing Paikoro constituency. Stressing that the security and welfare of people shall be the primary purpose of any government.
The legislator explained that some civil servants especially those from the local government education authority under UBEB who have reached their retirement age either 60 years of age or 35 years of service have long waited for 8 to 10 years without accessing their retirement benefits before their death
Suleiman Gambo further disclosed that family members pursuing the death gratuity of retirees always find it difficult to access, including family members who died in active service before retirement.
